What my remarkable clients have to say

Nina & Paul with Bernard

Nina & Paul with Bernard

“We were introduced to Tara Ferguson shortly after we adopted Bernard (a 4-year old Staffordshire Terrier). He had strong behavioural issues due to being attacked by a pack of dogs on a reserve and not having a consistent home in his 4 years. We’ve experienced both group training and one-to-one trainings with Tara. Even though Bernard had monstrous fears around people and other dogs, Tara was able to gain his trust from the beginning.

She is creative in her approach. Tara uses everyday places (back alleys, bus stops, shopping centres) as teaching grounds. In class, we used various props to assist Bernard in conquering his nervousness of everyday objects. Classes weren’t overcrowded. There was generous space  to move freely. He received gradual and safe exposure to other dogs. Tara gave equal attention to all participants. There were no favourites. However, there was practice, practice, practice. And encouragement.

Tara is highly observant. She is able to pick up Bernard’s body language quickly and make assessments on what training techniques fit, in that moment. She is keenly perceptive to our dog’s reactions to the world around him - what he’s nervous about, what excites him, and what encourages him. Tara has a great repertoire of techniques that are force-free, FUN, easy to learn, and effective. It’s not the same 5 or 6 approaches. Every dog and guardian is different. She adapts her training to that.

When introduced to dog training many years ago, I was inundated with vocabulary and methodology. It felt like learning Japanese. Tara is clear in her explanations. Understandable. She demonstrated the technique, explained why it is used, then clarified why it would be helpful for Bernard. She also followed up with email summaries on what was covered. She has never elevated herself above us with his training. Nor has she made presumptions on what she thinks we need to teach Bernard. She’s always assisted ‘us’ in what ‘we’ think should be the next step. Tara encourages a higher level of relationship between animal and human. I find that very unique.

Bernard has come from being a quasi-feral dog, unsure about life and highly distrustful of outsiders, to a humourous, curious, motivated dog that would jump over the moon for us and her.  It’s been an endearing journey to see him gain such confidence. Training at home will be continuous. However, with the myriad of techniques we’ve learned, the progress we’ve seen, and the fun we’ve had with Bernard, we are up for the adventure. And Tara has been a significant part of that adventure.”

‌“I have known Tara for just over 3 years as a great dog trainer and she is exceptional at what she does. She is an intelligent young women with a warm and caring demeanor. I will always be grateful for the great work she has offered to our 3 dogs.

Over the past few years, Tara has been great to work with and demonstrates that she is hard working, creative, approachable, adaptable, team player, and focus person in her work element.

I believe that her work ethic and motivation will ensure her success in any project she is involve in. She definitely knows how to work with dogs and most importantly their owners.r.

‌Tara has worked with my kids and I regarding my two mini-dachshunds. I found extreme inconsistancies in other trainers when training my Mastiff cross through various training companies. Tara helped me greatly as I gained trust in her consistency, patience and explanations. Seeing was else is out there, I would only recommend Tara as she has gained my trust in her ability to put my dogs interest ahead of her own.
